A day care provider has been charged with two counts of felony neglect after two children in her care wandered out of her Montclair home and into the surrounding neighborhood.
According to officials, Maleighia Grace Shockey, 23, was arrested on the charges after a one-year-old and three-year-old in her care were found wandering about 500 feet from her house. Officials estimate the two were wandering the streets for at least an hour before someone spotted them and flagged down police.
According to the Washington Post, when police arrived at Shockey’s house, there were five other children in her care and she was unaware the two toddlers had been missing.
Shockey was released after posting $2,500 bail. Her court date has not been determined.
