The gun a 33-year-old man was wielding when officer shot him was a toy submachine gun.
According to reports, Daniel Guy Newcomb, from Norfolk, Va.was a suspect in an armed robbery Saturday afternoon. Officers confronted him a bit later, but he sped away.
Officers pursued him, but after a short pursuit, he crashed into another vehicle. He then pointed a gun at officers before hiding behind a truck. He again pointed the toy gun at officers once he was behind the truck and he was shot at least once in the torso.
He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.
