The younger brother of two NFL players has been charged with murder in the hammer death of a tourist in April and has also been declared to stand trial at the moment.
A judge ordered that 19-year-old Michael Davis be treated for 60 days in a psychiatric hospital in an effort to “restore his compentancy” according to the Associated Press. In 60 days, the judge will decide if Davis is able to stand trial in the death of 66-year-old Gary Dederichs.
According to reports, Dederichs was walking in a the Petworth neighborhood when he was struck on the head with a hammer. Dederichs was killed in the attack, which investigators said appears to be random. Dederichs was a retired nurse visiting the Washington DC area.
Davis is also charged in two similar, non-fatal attacks and suspected in two other attacks. All of the attacks occurred over a three-day period. He has been treated for mental disorders in the past. Davis was living with his grandmother at the time of the attacks.
