An Oakton dentist was charged with 15 criminal counts including illegally distributing prescription pills to patients, employees and women he dated as well as using the identity of another dentist to fraudulently bill insurance companies of more than $160,000 in claims.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Hamada Makarita, 50, was charged with conspiracy, health care fraud, aggravated identity theft along with 12 counts of dispensing controlled substances.
Officials said that between 2007 and 2012, Makarita distributed and dispensed thousands of doses of prescription medicine to patients, employee and girlfriends without a legitimate dental purpose. They allege Makarita would ask for some of the medicines back and would use them for both consensual and non-consensual sex.
Additionally, federal prosecutors said Makarita billed $160,000 of claims to insurance companies for services provided for family members under another dentist’s name and received about $90,000 in reimbursement on those.
