A Fort Washington teen was sentenced Friday in the shooting of a toddler who was being held by his mother at the time.
Eighteen-year-old Devon Matos was sentenced to 25 years in prison, the maximum sentence he could have received, after being convicted on two counts of assault, three handgun-related crimes and endangerment after an August shooting.
According to reports, Matos was shooting August 22 outside a Glenarden apartment complex when 23-month-old Deondre Johnson was hit in the face. Deondre’s mother, Shaneka Johnson realized he had been shot when she ran inside after hearing the gunshots. Matos turned himself in after the shooting.
The boy now has a trancheotomy tube and is facing several additonal surgeries, including a five-hour one coming up next week.
