A former Capitol Heights mail carrier was sentenced to one year and one day in prison Friday after being convicted of destroying mail.
The 42-year-old of Upper Marlboro was also sentenced to an additional three years of supervised release. According to officials, burned and discarded mail was found in a wooded area along his route in 2009.
Officials said residents along his route began complaining of not receiving mail in 2009 for several days at a time. When officials were called to the scene, they found three trays of undelivered mail and mail dating back four months prior to the call in September 2009.
