A Chesterfield County mom has been sentenced to four years in prison for the death of her infant daughter.
Twenty-five-year-old Robin Imani Varner was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and felony child neglect in the January 2011 suffocation death of her 5 1/2-month-old daughter, Josephina. Varner placed several pillows and a blanket over the baby last year to muffle her daughter’s crying.
When emergency crews arrived at her house about 9:30 a.m. on January 3, they found the child unresponsive and not breathing.
Varner pleaded guilty in February to both charges. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison with a 16 year suspended sentence.
